Siwek Astral Travels is the creative company of Saskatchewan
visual artist Gerri Ann Siwek. Born in Hamilton Ontario, she studied at
the Ontario College of art (1971-73), the Arts Students League of New York
(1976-77) and at the University of Regina (1992-94). She has exhibited
drawings, paintings and installations in solo and group exhibitions and
her works of art are in numerous collections.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Since starting off my early artistic career as a
sucker painter in a Hamilton Ontario candy factory, I have continued to
find new ways to effectively use my creative talents. Working with various
mediums I explore areas of illusion, belief and phenomena. By mixing
fact with fiction and truths with half-truths, I move seamlessly from reality
to fantasy. At times I act as the skeptic in search of evidence,
other times I'm a believer or a miracle worker. I reference the supernatural,
paranormal and pseudo-sciences. My art addresses a current state
of high anxiety and mass media hysteria."
